Have you noticed our new welcome signs?

We have just replaced the Axminster welcome signage with a fresh new look!

After several decades, the old town signage had become tired, dated, and tatty. So, the Town Council decided to give the signage a facelift by replacing it with a clean, modern look.

Designed by our Deputy Clerk, Sarah, these new boundary signs feature an illustration that combines some of the town's most recognisable physical attributes with the long-held opinion that Axminster is the heart of community spirit.

The designs feature the Minster Church and green, including the war memorial, set into a heart shape. This is a nod to our community spirit and to the shape you will see if you look at the very centre of our town on a map—the Heart of Axminster!

This heart shape is made from two blue lines, which represent the Rivers Yarty and Axe, which converge within our parish.

Looking ahead, we will soon be installing some new fingerpost directional signs. These have been in production for a while, and our staff just need the right time to put them up. The team is trying to find a time when the installation will cause as little disruption as possible and when the weather is fine and light enough to fix them into the ground safely.

These new fingerpost signs will replace the old ones from the 1990s, which were removed last year as they were no longer accurate and had become weathered and worn. Our new signs will point in the direction of some key locations in town. Their black and gold design is high-contrast and easy to read in an effort to make them as dementia-friendly as possible and help all visitors and residents navigate our town with ease.

We hope that all of these new signs, along with our town maps, will help us to embrace our heritage while moving into the future in an inclusive and welcoming way.
