Nominations Open for the 2027 Robin Cross Citizen of the Year Award
Published: 30 October 2026
Axminster Town Council is once again calling for nominations for the Robin Cross Citizen of the Year Award, which celebrates individuals who make an exceptional contribution to the community.
The award honours the memory of Robin Cross, whose dedication to Axminster through his service as a Police Special Constable and his commitment to local young people left a lasting legacy. Established in his name, the award recognises residents who demonstrate exceptional community spirit through voluntary work and service to others.
Last year's recipient was Kay Pike, recognised for her outstanding contribution to the community and local environment through her work coordinating Plastic Free Axminster, part of the national Surfers Against Sewage campaign. Through this work, she engages with residents, local businesses, schools and community groups to raise awareness of the environmental impact of single-use plastics, and supports practical steps to reduce their use. Kay also organises regular litter picks in and around the town, bringing volunteers together to care for local streets, paths and green spaces.
Cllr Jack Price, Mayor of Axminster, said:
"One of the greatest strengths of Axminster is the willingness of local people to support one another and work together for the good of our town. The Robin Cross Citizen of the Year Award shines a light on those individuals whose kindness, commitment and community spirit often go unnoticed. Kay Pike's achievements over the past year have shown how a single person can inspire positive change, and I look forward to seeing this year's nominations and learning more about the extraordinary people who help make Axminster such a special place to live."
Axminster Town Council thanks Kay for her continued commitment to the town and looks forward to recognising another deserving recipient in 2027.
