Do you know a community superstar?

Each year Axminster Town Council bestow the Robin Cross ‘Citizen of the Year’ award upon one exceptional member of the community nominated by you. Who will you nominate this year?

The ‘Citizen of the Year’ award was launched in 2017 in memory of the late Robin Cross who was a pillar of the Axminster community and served Axminster as a Special Police Constable and caretaker at one of the local schools. He was well regarded for assisting those in need wherever he could.

‘Citizen of the Year’ was last awarded to Karen Taylor who leads Nourish, a not-for-profit organisation dedicated to ensuring those struggling, for whatever reason, have access to good nutritionally balanced home-cooked food. Karen’s drive to provide for her community is rooted in her compassion and empathy for those in need and from her own struggles.

Since the award, Karen and colleagues at Nourish have continued to provide support services to the wider community including a free lunch service for children during the summer holidays and they currently host a ‘warm space’ initiative every Tuesday at the Guildhall, sponsored by the Town Council via our winter resilience grant scheme.

Axminster Nub News kindly sponsor the award and donate £100 which the recipient is asked to give to a charity of their choice. Do you know a community hero, like Karen and Robin, who deserves to be recognised as the Axminster Citizen of the year 2023?

Please submit your nominations by Monday, December 5th so that they can be considered by the Town Council at their meeting on Monday, December 12th. The ‘Citizen of the Year’ trophy will be awarded at the Council’s first meeting in 2023. You can submit your nomination in writing by post or email, or by visiting the Town Council Offices, Monday-Thursday, 9am – 4pm.
