New Councillors

Published: 09 February 2021

At the Town Council meeting of 8th February 2021, the Council duly co-opted two candidates for the vacancies to represent the Weycroft Ward.  Cllr. Jill Farrow, the Town Mayor, welcomed Cllr. Ollie Tucker and Cllr. Steve Holt to the Council.

Cllr. Holt is well-known in the Axminster community as an active campaigner for Axminster Hospital and a dedicated member of ACER to assist the community through the pandemic.

Cllr. Tucker has the distinction of being the Council's youngest ever Councillor, and is one of only 0.6% of Councillors nationally, under the age of 25 (Counclliors' Census 2018).   'Councillors on the frontline' says "If councillors are to play a much more active role in supporting and representing their communities, it is important to have councillors to whom the community can relate. The average age of a councillor in England is 60, 96% of councillors are white and only 31% are female."

We still have 4 vacancies for Councillors.  If you are in an underrepresented group and are interested in reading more about becoming a Councillor, then click on this BBC News article to find out more.
