Axminster Town Council Announces Jubilee Field Pathway Improvements

Long-Awaited Improvements to Create Complete Circular Route at Jubilee Field

Axminster Town Council is pleased to announce that improvement works will soon commence at Jubilee Field to link the ends of the existing pathway and create a continuous circular walking route around the site.

The project represents a significant investment in one of the town's most popular recreational spaces and responds to requests from residents and regular users who have long advocated completing the route.

The developer of the Dukes Way estate, Betterment Properties Ltd, transferred the Jubilee Field to Axminster Town Council (via East Devon District Council) in 2021. The land transfer included a sum of money that the Town Council earmarked for maintaining and improving the facility.

Since then, the amenity has seen the installation of noticeboards, bins, benches, a climbing wall to accompany the existing play equipment, and the planting of numerous trees. A maintenance programme is now in place to make space for users and nature alike, something which will be developed further over time.

The completion of the walking route has been the single most requested improvement made to the Council by users of the facility and will use up the remaining dowry funds – a worthwhile investment!

Following a competitive procurement process, Tony Benger Landscaping Ltd. was selected to undertake the work, which is anticipated to start in the week commencing the 19th of October, and take approximately two to three weeks to complete, subject to weather conditions.

Once finished, the improvements will provide an enhanced walking and recreational experience for residents of all ages, offering a safer and more accessible route for walkers, runners, cyclists, dog owners and families enjoying the field.

Councillor Jeremy Walden, the Chair of the Operations Committee, said:

"We are delighted to finally be in a position to deliver these improvements at Jubilee Field. Residents have told us for some time that they would like to see the pathway completed, and we're pleased to respond to that feedback.

Jubilee Field is a valued community asset used by hundreds of people each week, and these works will help make the facility more accessible and enjoyable for everyone who visits."

To support the project, contractors will access the site via Swain Close. As such, the Swain Close entrance will be closed for the duration of the project, and access to other parts of the field may be temporarily restricted for public safety. Wherever possible, access will be maintained via the Dukes Way and Boxfield Road entrances.

The Council appreciates that there may be temporary disruption during construction and thanks residents and visitors for their patience and cooperation as these long-awaited improvements are delivered.
