Democracy in Axminster - May 2026

We’ve received a few queries about the elections taking place tomorrow, and we wanted to clear a few things up and reassure everyone:

• There are 𝗻𝗼 𝗲𝗹𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀 𝘁𝗮𝗸𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗽𝗹𝗮𝗰𝗲 𝗶𝗻 𝗔𝘅𝗺𝗶𝗻𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗿 𝘁𝗼𝗺𝗼𝗿𝗿𝗼𝘄 (𝟳𝘁𝗵 𝗠𝗮𝘆). 
• No elections have been cancelled - our area is simply on a 𝗱𝗶𝗳𝗳𝗲𝗿𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗲𝗹𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗰𝘆𝗰𝗹𝗲 from other parts of the county, which are having elections right now. 
• The next scheduled local elections for Axminster will take place 𝗻𝗲𝘅𝘁 𝘆𝗲𝗮𝗿. 

Next year's elections will be for Axminster Town Council, and possibly for East Devon District Council, depending on the progress of Local Government Reorganisation, which will see the District and County Councils replaced by a larger Unitary Authority. 

However, the Town Council currently has a 𝗰𝗮𝘀𝘂𝗮𝗹 𝘃𝗮𝗰𝗮𝗻𝗰𝘆, so if you would like to get involved in local democracy, please consider putting your name forward for co-option.
