Nomination Now Open - Robin Cross Citizen of the Year 2026

Published: 05 November 2025

Axminster Town Council is once again calling for nominations for the Robin Cross Citizen of the Year Award, which celebrates those who make an exceptional contribution to the community. The award honours the memory of Robin Cross, whose remarkable service as a Police Special Constable and commitment to Axminster Primary School made him a true example of community spirit.

Established in his name, the award recognises residents who embody Robin's legacy through voluntary work that enhances the well-being of others and strengthens the community as a whole.

Last year's winner was Barrie Hedges, who demonstrated his dedication to Axminster through initiatives that have enriched the community and bolstered the local economy. Barrie has played a key leadership role in a host of initiatives, including Totally Locally, Axminster Banners, the Chamber of Commerce, and his more recent involvement in the 'For The Love Of A Railway' project, which continues to attract visitors of all ages. The Town Council would like to thank Barrie for his ongoing commitment to Axminster and is looking forward to presenting the award to the next Citizen of the Year.

Nominations for the 2026 award are now open and will close on the 1st of December. If you are a resident of Axminster, this is your chance to recognise someone whose hard work, kindness, and voluntary service have made a lasting difference to Axminster.

How to Submit a Nomination:

1. Nominate any individual who embodies community spirit and selflessness by submitting their name by the 1st of December. You can do this online at www.surveymonkey.com/r/RobinCrossAward or pick up a nomination form from the Town Council Office at Axminster Guildhall. Please note that serving Town Councillors are not eligible for this award.

2. Town Councillors will carefully review the nominations and select the most worthy candidate for the award.

3. The award will be presented to the winner in early 2026, and a donation of £100 will be made to a charity or cause of their choice.

This is your opportunity to shine a spotlight on one of Axminster's unsung heroes, someone who quietly works to make our town a better place. Let us honour those whose dedication reflects the spirit of Robin Cross and the values that unite our community.
